Barbering

The Barbering course combines classroom instruction and laboratory opportunities in order to develop academic knowledge, professional knowledge, and job-acquisition skills. The curriculum is designed to give an overview of the barbering industry as a whole, including licensing, customer service, current trends, and professional growth opportunities. The program emphasizes training in safety, sanitation, shaving, haircutting, marketing, reception, sales, and opportunity for small business ownership.

Students who successfully complete this 500-hour course and are at least 17 years old will be eligible to sit for the New York State Licensing Examination. Upon completion of the course and examination, students will be qualified to seek entry-level positions in the personal care and barbering industries, and will be prepared for continued personal, academic, and professional growth.
