Baldwin Fire Department Helps Educate Students on Fire Safety and Future Careers in Emergency Services
The elementary schools, with the help of their PTAs, invited the Baldwin Fire Department, along with their fire truck, to come and educate the younger grades.
“Our kindergartners were thrilled by the firetruck demonstration, where they each got the opportunity to climb inside the fire engine with the help of their teachers and fire chief,” said Mr. Mark Gray, principal of Plaza Elementary School. “The students truly relished this fun educational experience. A heartfelt thank you to our PTA and the Baldwin Fire Department for making this possible.”
After the Ladder 2 firefighters discussed fire safety, students received a packet with crayons and a coloring book with tips to help practice fire prevention at home. Lenox and Meadow Elementary Schools and PTAs also welcomed firefighters for a lesson on fire prevention and response.
At the secondary level, in preparation for Fire Prevention Week and to coincide with their curriculum, Baldwin High School@Shubert students enrolled in the Criminal Justice course participated in a Leaving2Learn at the Baldwin Fire Department Fire House, Rose Boulevard location. The purpose of the trip was to educate the students about how the fire department collaborates with law enforcement and fits into the broader emergency services system in the local community. In addition to learning about the daily operations, the students also had the opportunity to try on the specialized gear and ask the firefighters questions.
